About me

I am a native of Denmark and have lived a nomadic lifestyle, spending years in Scandinavia, Switzerland, and on the East Coast of the United States, with many vacations in Corsica. I now reside in Thun, Switzerland.

I have always been a creative person, exploring various art forms such as painting, sewing, and pottery. However, in 2005, I discovered a passion that truly captivated me and set me on an artistic journey. At the Danforth School of Art in Massachusetts, I took my first printmaking class and fell in love with printing nature’s textures and transforming photographs through paper lithography. The frustration was always having to wait for the next class day to create, as a large press was needed for this technique. In 2008, I furthered my skills by taking classes with the talented Boston artist Liz Shepherd. Under her guidance, I learned how to print without a press using a homemade gelatin plate.

Amidst the challenges of the pandemic I found myself craving solace. This made me decide to get more serious about my art. I set up an art table in the middle of the living room and my journey took off. What began with gel printing has evolved into a fusion of monoprinting, collage, mixed media, and acrylic painting, inspired by my prior classes, online tutorials, YouTube videos, and the remarkable talent showcased by fellow artists on Instagram.

When I’m at my art table I get lost in the rhythm of creation. In that space, the world around me dissolves and my intuition takes the reins. Suddenly paper snips, paint and collage fragments get transfigured into works of art fueled by the light, colors, nature and my emotional state.

The PROCESS

My starting point is gel-printing sessions where piles and piles of papers are created in a myriad of shades and textures. During printing I add textures to the papers with botanical elements, found objects, and image transfers from magazines or my own photographs. These unique papers are then combined with collage elements, to create simple collages or otherwise layered with collage elements, markings and acrylic paint to create landscapes or narratives.

Perspective is a cornerstone of my art. I enjoy creating worlds within worlds, embedding unexpected elements and using unusual openings that connect unrelated realms. This invites the viewers to explore and discover new perspectives with each glance, adding layers of meaning based on personal interpretation. My work often includes the theme gender fluidity and the merging of human and beast elements giving an opportunity for creative expression. This exploration allows for a fluid and humorous interpretation of the world, pushing the boundaries of conventional understanding.

ARTISTIC Statement

I make art because it is an amazing feeling to transform mood, surroundings, and nature into something visible. I love to play with the unexpected and often use humor in my art. But most of all, I make art because once I start, I can’t stop.
